Why “Pancha Khanda”?

Where Does the Name Pancha Khanda Come From? The name Pancha Khanda originates from a key concept in traditional Thai medicine, inspired by Buddhist teachings. According to this philosophy, human beings are composed of five fundamental aggregates, known as Pancha Khanda, which describe our physical and mental essence.

Pancha Khanda Philosophy

The Five Aggregates of Pancha Khanda:

  1. RUPA – The Body
Represents the tangible form and manifestation of the four elements:
    • Earth: The 20 solid parts of the body (bones, muscles, organs, etc.).
    • Water: The 12 bodily fluids (blood, lymph, saliva, etc.).
    • Wind: Internal movement in six directions (circulation, digestion, respiration).
    • Fire: Metabolism and vital heat.
  2. VEDANA – Sensations
Emotions and feelings generated by the five senses and the mind.
  3. SANYA – Recognition
The ability to identify and give meaning to actions and objects around us.
  4. SANKHARA – Thought
Mental processes that influence our decisions and actions.
  5. VINYANA – Consciousness
Awareness that arises from sensations and emotions.

In traditional Thai medicine, the four elements interact to maintain balance and health. When these physical elements are out of harmony, it can lead to blockages that affect not only the body but also the mind and spirit.

Inspiration from Thailand

The idea of adopting the name Pancha Khanda was born in 2008 during a vacation in Thailand, where I discovered the traditional foot massage (Foot Massage). This practice, combined with Thai philosophy, left a deep impression on me. I pursued further training in Thailand in 2013 and 2016 to deepen my understanding of these ancient techniques, while continuing my learning in Switzerland.

Thai massage aims to restore the body’s and mind’s natural balance by stimulating the SEN energy lines. There are ten primary SEN lines (among 72,000 according to tradition) associated with the flow of Wind, or life force. By revitalizing this circulation, the therapist alleviates tension, unblocks energy, and supports health.

My Therapeutic Approach

As a practitioner, I embrace a holistic view of the individual. I prioritize:

  • Listening: Understanding each person’s unique needs.
  • Respect: Providing tailored, compassionate care.
  • Dialogue: Helping my clients harness their inner resources for physical and emotional healing.

My goal is to make the practice a sanctuary where confidentiality, kindness, and empathy are at the heart of the experience.
