The cranio-sacral technique is a therapy that takes its origins from osteopathy. It consists of gentle and non-invasive manipulations of the head bones, spinal column and sacrum, hence the name ‘cranio-sacral’. People of all ages, from new-borns to elders, can benefit from this therapy.
The cranio-sacral system (CSS), like other body systems such as, for instance, the respiratory or the cardiovascular system, has an influence on many functions of our organism.
The CSS is composed of the meninges, the cerebrospinal fluid, the skull bones, the spinal cord, the sacrum, all the connective tissues and all the corporal fluids.
When the body is in a well-being condition, in equilibrium, all these elements benefit from a flowing and continuous movement which ensures its functionalities. This movement, transmitted all over the body, is called Primary Respiratory Mechanism. The therapist feels the rhythm of this movement with his/her hands and fingers, and gives the impulsion to the body to rebalance itself according to this rhythm.
When this system loses its equilibrium or for particular reasons a block or a modification occurs, the body may onset disorders like migraines, dizziness, back pain, learning disorders, depression, etc.
The CSS is actually linked to the fasciae and to the nervous, muscular skeletal, cardiovascular, lymphatic, endocrine, respiratory, digestive systems. Therefore, when working with the cranio-sacral therapy, we help the patient to regain his/her natural body equilibrium, the so-called homeostasis.
The aim of this technique is not to eliminate the disorder observed at the beginning; instead its aim is to bring the body back to its best conditions in order to activate its own capacity of self-healing.
With this technique we can have a positive effect on all the body functions.
Cranio-sacral therapy improves posture and respiration, contributes to eliminate blockages and discomforts such as migraines, cephalgia, back or cervical pains, lumbagos, sciatica. It is also a great effective anti-stress method.
Furthermore, this technique helps the body recover after a trauma (accident, surgery, whiplash, vertigos, and delivery).
The practice on the connective tissue, joints and fasciae, improves the physical well-being and relaxation, already from the first treatment.
Given its gentle and enjoyable nature, this technique is well appreciated even from people with no particular illness or pathology.
A treatment can be a simple excuse to rest, to regain physical and mental energy, and win back a new vitality.
The most common issues that the CST can relieve are:
- Chronical pains, back or cervical pains
- migraines and cephalgia
- vertigo
- rigidity in joints
- low energy
- temporomandibular joint disorder
- learning disorders
- difficult delivery
- neuropathic pain
- muscular skeletal pains
- insomnia
- coordination disorders
- menstrual and menopause issues
- digestive system troubles
- rheumatoid arthritis
- eyesight and hearing problems
- sinusitis, asthma, mood disorders, etc.
